Local knowledge and a deep respect of the land
Fitretu Getachew is the founder and guide of Open Ethiopia. He was born inDimeka village of the Omo Valley of Ethiopia where he spent his childhood in different parts of this region. His parents had 5 more children. He studied a major in history and a minor in Geography in Awassa University and speaks Amharic as well as most of the tribal languages around the Omo. Besides this, he has been a teacher in the rural areas of the Omo Valley for several years.
Fitretu is an energetic guy who is real, optimistic, honest and friendly. He has given a high quality service for his clients over many years. Prior to working as a tour guide, he had been a local guide and project coordinator for NGOs involved in different humanitarian projects in the Omo region for several years. As well as this he has experience in professional and personal travel to ensure his guests are satisfied during their entire stay.
